DOT 3 and DOT 4 are glycol-based brake fluids. They’re pretty corrosive to start, and they can absorb water from the air, which makes them even more acidic (so keep your master cylinders and extra bottles closed tight). DOT 5 brake fluid is silicone based, and boils at 500°F. It doesn’t absorb moisture, but it can develop foam, so it’s not advised for use with anti-lock braking systems.
