Unveiled at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the third-generation Ford Focus “Mk3” was both a return to form for the popular compact and a significant step forward. After segregating its North American and international offerings with the previous generation Focus, Ford reunited the line and made it available globally. Ford brought bold styling and hatchback options that made the original vehicle a success, while also integrating a number of new features. The interior of the Focus Mk3 was redesigned to provide extra space. Updated, more premium-quality materials provided a more upscale feel. The vehicle debuted with a single engine option—a 2.0L direct injection Duratec inline-four—that produced 160 horsepower and 146 foot-pounds of torque. That changed in the summer of 2012 when Ford expanded the line with the sporty ST model, featuring a turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost engine capable of producing 252 hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque.
