Commonly referred to as “squarebody” trucks, the 1973-87 Chevy K-Series pickup trucks enjoyed the longest production run of any of the Chevy pickup trucks. With over a decade of incremental evolutions, the K10 iteration provided better fuel efficiency, safety, utility, and performance over the previous year. K-Series trucks could be had with a Fleetside or Stepside bed, and for the first time Chevy half-ton truck buyers could get a diesel engine in their pickup. It also introduced the name “Silverado” as a trim package in 1975. The name would eventually replace the K-Series as the truck’s model designation. As a final footnote, to prepare for the introduction of fuel injection and a new body style, Chevy changed the familiar K-Series designations to the V-Series, with and “V” indicating 4WD.
